Punch and Judy show

Day 4
25 May 2009

Swanage definitely has its own microclimate. It can be blowing a gale around Purbeck, but Swanage can have bright sunshine and a light breeze. It's weird. Once I overheard someone say that it never snows in Swanage, because it's on a peninsula. They have since been proved wrong earlier this year when heavy snowfall cocooned the Isle of Purbeck in a thick white blanket. And anyway, how does being on a peninsula stop snow from falling in that area? Why, if I were any good at geography, I'd prove that theory wrong, too, as I'm sure there are some snowy peninsulas out there, somewhere. Like up in Scotland. Probably.

So, anyway, today it started off with rain and gloom clouds all around, and by mid morning it had changed to a clear blue sky, and hot sunshine. It has been beautiful. Punch and Judy were on the beach doing their bit for the tourist trade, and judging by the number of people on the beach, they would have done pretty well.
